Non-Visual Web Access
Also known as: Non-Visual Browsing, Nonvisual Web Access
The use of the web without relying on visual display, typically through screen readers, voice browsers, or refreshable braille displays that convert web content into speech or tactile output. Non-visual web access depends heavily on proper semantic HTML, alternative text for images, heading structure for navigation, and skip links to bypass repetitive content. The quality of non-visual access is determined not just by whether content is technically present, but whether it is structured in a way that supports efficient serial navigation — since non-visual users experience content linearly rather than being able to scan a page visually.
