WURFL

Also known as: Wireless Universal Resource File

An open-source device description repository that catalogs the capabilities of mobile devices in a large XML file. WURFL collects information about device features such as screen size, image format support, CSS support, and pointing device availability, enabling developers and accessibility evaluation tools to adapt web content to specific devices. Community-maintained and more widely adopted than manufacturer-created UAProf profiles, WURFL became an important resource for mobile web development and accessibility testing, though its crowd-sourced nature means device data may contain inconsistencies.
