DocBook

Also known as: DocBook XML

An XML-based markup language designed for technical documentation and publishing, providing a semantic vocabulary for books, articles, and other prose documents. DocBook separates content from presentation, allowing the same source document to be transformed into multiple output formats (HTML, PDF, EPUB, etc.) through XSLT stylesheets. In accessibility research, DocBook has been used as a canonical intermediate format for document production pipelines, enabling automated transformation of content into accessible formats including aural presentations and formats optimised for assistive technologies.
