HHS Usability Guidelines

Also known as: Research-Based Web Design and Usability Guidelines, Usability.gov Guidelines

A comprehensive set of evidence-based web design and usability guidelines published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The guidelines cover areas including homepage design, page layout, navigation, scrolling, headings, links, text appearance, content organization, and search functionality. Each guideline is rated by its strength of evidence and relative importance, making them one of the most validated and widely referenced usability guideline collections available. They complement accessibility standards like WCAG by addressing the broader user experience dimensions of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction.
