Amazon Mechanical Turk
Also known as: AMT, MTurk, Mechanical Turk
A crowdsourcing marketplace operated by Amazon that enables individuals and businesses to distribute tasks (called Human Intelligence Tasks or HITs) to a distributed workforce who complete them remotely for small payments. AMT has been widely used in HCI and accessibility research both as a research tool for collecting data and as a platform studied for its potential to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Research has shown that while the platform offers flexibility and remote work benefits, its complex interface and overwhelming task variety can create barriers for workers with cognitive disabilities.
