Quantified Self

Also known as: Self-Tracking, Personal Informatics, Lifelogging

The practice of using technology to systematically track and analyse data about one's own body, health, behaviour, and daily activities. Common tools include fitness trackers, smartwatches, heart rate monitors, and mobile apps that record metrics such as steps, sleep, calories, heart rate, and physical activity. In accessibility contexts, the quantified self movement raises important questions about inclusive design: most commercial tracking devices are calibrated for able-bodied users (e.g., step counting is irrelevant for wheelchair users), creating barriers for people with disabilities who want to monitor their fitness and health. Adapting self-tracking tools for diverse bodies and abilities is an active area of accessibility research.
