Dystonia

Also known as: Dystonic Movements

A movement disorder characterized by sustained or intermittent muscle contractions causing abnormal, often repetitive movements, postures, or both. Dystonia can affect a single body part (focal dystonia), adjacent regions (segmental), or the whole body (generalized). In Parkinson's Disease, dystonia commonly affects the feet (toe curling) or hands, and can be triggered by medication wearing off. For digital accessibility, dystonia creates unpredictable challenges—users may have difficulty with precise pointing, sustained key presses, or touchscreen gestures, with symptoms varying throughout the day based on medication timing.
