Chartability
Also known as: Chartability Heuristics
A set of heuristics for assessing the accessibility of data visualizations, developed by Frank Elavsky and the Dataviz Accessibility group. Chartability provides a systematic framework for evaluating whether charts, graphs, maps, and other data visualizations are accessible to users of assistive technology, particularly screen readers. The heuristics cover multiple dimensions including content (whether data values and trends are conveyed), context (whether titles, sources, and explanatory information are accessible), navigation (whether users can move through the visualization effectively), and interactivity (whether interactive features work with keyboards and screen readers). Unlike WCAG, which provides general web accessibility guidance, Chartability specifically addresses the unique challenges of making visual data representations accessible.
