AI ethics

Also known as: Artificial intelligence ethics, Machine learning ethics

The field concerned with ensuring that artificial intelligence systems are developed and deployed in ways that are fair, transparent, accountable, and respectful of human rights. In accessibility contexts, AI ethics addresses concerns about algorithmic bias that may disadvantage people with disabilities, the accuracy of AI systems that make inferences about people (such as emotion or gender recognition), and the appropriate use of AI to provide information that was previously unavailable to disabled users. Key considerations include whether AI should infer subjective characteristics, how to handle inevitable errors, and how to balance accessibility benefits against potential harms to users and those observed.
