Last Meter Problem
Also known as: Last Mile Problem, Final Approach Problem
In assistive technology for blind users, the challenge of bridging the gap between knowing an object exists and physically reaching or interacting with it. While object detection apps can identify what objects are present and approximately where they are, they typically cannot guide a user's hand to actually grasp or touch the object. Solving the last meter problem requires providing continuous, real-time feedback about distance and direction to enable precise hand-to-object guidance. This concept parallels the "last mile problem" in logistics, where the final delivery leg is often the most challenging.
