Authorable Virtual Peer
Also known as: AVP
A life-sized animated virtual character technology designed to support social skills development in children with autism and related disorders. Unlike passive virtual agents, authorable virtual peers allow children to interact in multiple modes: face-to-face conversation, authoring the character's behaviors, and operating the character for another child. This approach is grounded in constructionist learning theory, giving children agency over their social learning by letting them build and control the virtual peer's responses.
