Transformation Proxy
Also known as: Transcoding Proxy, Web Accessibility Proxy
A transformation proxy is an intermediary server that sits between a user and the web, intercepting web pages and modifying their content before delivering them to the user's browser. In accessibility contexts, transformation proxies are used to improve the accessibility of web pages on-the-fly — for example, by inserting missing alternative text for images, adding heading structure, or restructuring page layouts to be more navigable by screen readers. This approach allows accessibility improvements to be applied without requiring changes to the original website, making it particularly useful for fixing third-party content that users cannot control. Systems like WebInSight and aiBrowser used proxy-based architectures to enhance web accessibility for blind users.
