Device Switching
Also known as: Device Transition, Cross-Device Interaction
The process of moving between different computing devices to complete tasks, such as switching from a smartphone to a laptop or tablet. For people with motor impairments, particularly wheelchair users, device switching presents significant accessibility barriers because it often requires physical repositioning of devices, transferring content or state between systems, and adapting to different input methods. Seamless device switching is an important consideration in accessible technology design, as many users rely on multiple devices with different form factors to accommodate varying tasks, fatigue levels, and physical contexts.
