Assistive Communication
Also known as: Assisted Communication
Any method, device, or system used to supplement or replace natural speech and writing for people who have difficulty with spoken or written language. Assistive communication encompasses a broad range of approaches, from low-tech solutions like picture boards and communication books to high-tech devices with speech synthesis and dynamic vocabulary systems. The goal is to enable people with communication disabilities to express needs, share ideas, and participate in social interaction as independently as possible.
