MultiTap
Also known as: Multi-Tap
A standard text-entry method used on mobile phone keypads where groups of three or four letters are assigned to each numeric key, and users press the key consecutively to cycle through the available letters. For example, pressing the "2" key once produces "a," twice produces "b," and three times produces "c." While widely used by sighted users, MultiTap presents significant accessibility barriers for blind users because it relies on visual feedback to confirm which letter is selected, provides no audio cues during letter cycling, and requires memorization of letter-to-key mappings. These limitations have driven the development of alternative text-entry methods like NavTap for non-visual input.
