Goldmann Perimetry
Also known as: Goldmann Visual Field Test, Kinetic Perimetry
Goldmann perimetry is a clinical technique for mapping the visual field — the total area a person can see while fixating on a central point. The test uses a moving stimulus of controlled size and brightness projected onto a white hemispherical bowl, with the examiner tracking the boundaries where the patient can and cannot detect the stimulus. The resulting visual field map reveals areas of reduced or absent vision (scotomas) and the extent of peripheral vision. In accessibility, visual field assessment is important because users with restricted fields may need different interface accommodations than those with central vision loss, affecting decisions about element placement, scrolling behavior, and display layout.
