Intelligent Home System

Also known as: IHS, Smart Home System, Ambient Assisted Living System

A technology-enhanced living environment that uses sensors, actuators, and computing to monitor conditions and provide automated or voice-activated support for daily activities, particularly for older adults and people with disabilities who wish to live independently. Intelligent home systems can detect events (falls, temperature changes, door openings), deliver spoken alerts and reminders, control lighting and appliances, and facilitate communication with caregivers or emergency services. The design of these systems for older and disabled users requires careful attention to interface accessibility, including the choice of speech output characteristics, input modality options, and cognitive load management.
