Braille Translation

Also known as: Braille Transcription, Text-to-Braille Translation

The process of converting printed text or digital text content into Braille, either manually by a trained transcriber or automatically using software such as Duxbury. Braille translation involves more than simple character substitution — it requires knowledge of Braille codes, formatting conventions, and grade levels (Grade 1 for letter-by-letter and Grade 2 for contracted Braille). In the context of tactile graphics, Braille translation also involves replacing printed text labels within images with Braille equivalents, which must be carefully scaled and positioned to fit the tactile output format.
