Biosignal Interface
Also known as: Physiological Interface, Biometric Input
An input interface that detects and interprets biological signals from the human body — such as muscle contractions (EMG), brain electrical activity (EEG), eye movements (EOG), or galvanic skin response — to generate computer commands. Biosignal interfaces are particularly valuable for people with severe motor disabilities who cannot use conventional input devices like keyboards and mice. They range from non-invasive surface sensors (attached to the skin or worn as headbands or wristbands) to implanted electrodes. The key design challenge is reliably distinguishing intentional signals from involuntary movements, noise, and baseline physiological activity.
