A specialised computer system designed to perform a dedicated function within a larger device, typically operating with real-time constraints and limited resources. Unlike general-purpose computers, embedded systems are built into the products they control. In assistive technology, embedded systems are found in devices such as Braille displays, hearing aids, screen readers built into operating systems, and portable reading machines, where dedicated processors handle specific accessibility functions without requiring a separate computer.
