Clicking Error
Also known as: Click Slip, Selection Error
An unintended mouse input that occurs during the clicking phase of target selection, distinct from errors in cursor positioning. Common clicking errors include slipping off the target (the cursor moves between button press and release), accidental clicks made while the mouse is in motion, overlapping button presses (pressing a second button before fully releasing the first), and clicking on the wrong target. Research with users with motor impairments has found that clicking errors can account for more than two incorrect clicks per target activation attempt, and that these errors are a significant source of frustration and reduced productivity. Clicking errors are particularly prevalent among users with conditions affecting fine motor control, such as Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and stroke.
