Cursor Freeze

Also known as: Pointer Freeze, Steady Clicks

An assistive technology technique that locks the cursor position in place during mouse button clicks, preventing the cursor from moving between the press and release of the button. This addresses a common source of errors for users with motor impairments who may involuntarily move the mouse while clicking, causing the cursor to slip off the intended target. When cursor freeze is active, the cursor remains stationary from the moment any mouse button is pressed until it is released, regardless of physical mouse movement. While this can interfere with drag operations (which inherently require movement during a button press), research has shown that most users adapt quickly and prefer the reduced clicking errors. Cursor freeze is typically implemented at the operating system level so it works across all applications.
