Discoverability

Also known as: Feature Discoverability

The degree to which a user can find and become aware of a feature, setting, or capability within a system. In accessibility, discoverability is a critical challenge because users who could benefit from accessibility features — such as screen magnification, high contrast modes, or keyboard navigation options — often do not know these features exist or where to find them. This is compounded when users do not self-identify as having a disability and therefore never search for features labelled under "accessibility." Poor discoverability of accessibility features can render them effectively useless, regardless of how well designed they are. Strategies to improve discoverability include centralised accessibility settings, contextual suggestions, onboarding prompts, and labelling features by functional benefit rather than disability category.
