Humanoid Robot

Also known as: Humanoid

A robot whose physical form approximates a human body, typically with a head, torso, two arms, and (in bipedal designs) two legs. Humanoid robots are studied in accessibility research as embodied demonstrators that can present gestures, postures, and movement sequences in ways that a flat screen or static tactile model cannot. For blind and low-vision learners in particular, a touchable humanoid can convey transitions between poses and simultaneous multi-limb coordination through direct tactile exploration, avoiding the social awkwardness of touching a human instructor. Tabletop humanoids (roughly 30 to 50 cm tall) are often preferred over full-size platforms because they are safer to touch, easier to sense with two hands, and cheaper to deploy in classrooms or homes.
