Science Communicator

Also known as: SC, Museum Science Communicator

A trained staff member in a science museum whose role is to explain exhibits, demonstrate phenomena, and answer visitor questions. Science Communicators are central to several accessibility interventions for blind visitors because they provide the interpretive, social, and flexible support that automated audio guides cannot — describing visual features, narrating interactive displays, and guiding visitors through parts of exhibits where signage or touch alone is insufficient. Accessible museum navigation systems often integrate a 'call an SC' function so that blind visitors can request a human guide on demand rather than being accompanied at all times.
