DTBook

Also known as: Digital Talking Book XML, DAISY DTBook

The XML text format used inside DAISY 3 (ANSI/NISO Z39.86) digital talking books to represent the text content of a book in a structured, accessible way. DTBook provides elements for headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, sidebars, poetry, and other document structures, enabling a DAISY player or screen reader to navigate by heading, page, or sentence. The EPUB 3 specification was designed to be bidirectionally compatible with DTBook, so modern EPUB 3 accessible books can be generated directly from DTBook source. DTBook is central to the worldwide accessible-book ecosystem run by libraries serving readers with print disabilities.
