Wide-Range Achievement Test
Also known as: WRAT, WRAT-5, WRAT sentence comprehension
A standardised achievement test used to measure basic academic skills, including word reading, sentence comprehension, spelling, and math computation. In accessibility research, the WRAT sentence-comprehension sub-test has been validated as a measure of English literacy for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing adults and is often used to stratify research participants by literacy level so that results can be interpreted fairly across diverse reader groups. The WRAT is a clinician-administered instrument currently in its 5th edition (WRAT-5), published by PAR Inc. Reporting WRAT scores in studies involving DHH participants is recommended so that findings can be compared across studies with different literacy profiles.
