National Technical Institute for the Deaf
Also known as: NTID
The National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), one of the nine colleges of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), is the first and largest technical college in the world for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Established by U.S. federal legislation in 1965, NTID provides technical and professional education programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and trains professionals who work with them, including teachers, interpreters, and researchers. NTID also runs outreach programs such as Explore Your Future (EYF), which brings deaf high-school students to campus for hands-on exposure to careers. In accessibility research, NTID is a frequent collaborator and recruiting partner for sign-language technology, deaf-education, and participatory design projects.
