Coh-Metrix
A web-based tool developed at the University of Memphis that analyses text on more than a hundred measures of language, cohesion, and readability, including referential and semantic cohesion, lexical diversity, syntactic complexity, and latent semantic analysis. Coh-Metrix moves beyond surface readability formulas by modelling the coherence properties that actually support comprehension, and has been validated against comprehension data from children and college students. For accessibility and plain-language practitioners, Coh-Metrix provides a richer diagnostic than Flesch-Kincaid or SMOG when deciding how to simplify a text for readers with cognitive disabilities, low literacy, or second-language audiences.
