DALL-E

Also known as: DALL-E 2, DALL-E 3, DALLE

A family of text-to-image generative AI models developed by OpenAI that produces images from natural-language prompts. DALL-E models are widely used by content creators, including people with disabilities, to generate visuals without photography or illustration skills, but they are known to produce biased or inaccurate depictions of disability — for example, defaulting to wheelchairs for characters described as having cerebral palsy, failing to render specific assistive technologies like posterior walkers or braille displays, and introducing stereotypes such as sunglasses on visually impaired characters. Consistency across multiple generated images of the same character is also a documented weakness relevant to disability storytelling.
