Body Sheet

Also known as: Body Map, Body Mapping

A body sheet is an outline drawing of the human body (typically front, back, and side views) used as a canvas onto which participants map bodily sensations, emotions, or symptoms. Originating in art therapy and physiotherapy pain-mapping practice, body sheets have been adopted in soma design and health research as a tool for sensory articulation that reduces reliance on verbal description. They are used in chronic-pain assessment, stress and breathing research, synaesthesia articulation, and interoceptive awareness studies, and have recently been extended into immersive 3D versions within VR environments.
