Last-Few-Meters Problem

Also known as: Last 10 Meters Problem, Last Mile Problem (Navigation)

The navigation challenge that occurs when GPS or other positioning systems bring a person with a visual impairment to the general vicinity of their destination (typically within 5-10 meters) but cannot guide them to the precise location, such as a specific entrance, storefront, or door. Sighted people resolve this gap visually, but blind and low-vision users face significant difficulty identifying the exact target among multiple possibilities. Common scenarios include finding the right door in a cluster, locating a building entrance from a parking lot, or identifying a specific storefront in a shopping center. Resolution typically requires sighted assistance, trial and error, or Orientation and Mobility techniques such as trailing building lines and using environmental landmarks.
